Dealing with IBS?

Bloating and constipation are common symptoms – SmartGut can help.

 What is IBS?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common functional disorder of the large intestine characterized by cramping, abdominal pain, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. While its causes can vary, patients with IBS often experience increased gut sensitivity. The microbiome in IBS patients is generally different than people without IBS [1].

IBS Symptoms

Symptoms of IBS can vary over time and may be different for each individual. Some common symptoms include diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and abdominal pain. Changes in diet, stress level, and hormones are all potential triggers for these symptoms.

Diarrhea

Some IBS patients have diarrhea-predominant symptoms (IBS-D) with varying severity.

Constipation

Some IBS patients have constipation-predominant (IBS-C) due to a slowing in gut function.

Bloating

People with IBS often experience gas and bloating as a result of their altered gut function.

Anxiety/Depression

There is an important connection between the gut and the central nervous system; anxiety and mood disorders have been linked to increased IBS symptoms.

I was diagnosed with IBS and prescribed medication, but I still felt sick. Knowing I was low in certain bacteria, this allowed me to supplement with foods and probiotics and it really has made a difference in my health. I had forgotten how it felt to feel great.
